DONATION OPTIONS

When you give money to United Way, you are making a real difference in the community. The impact of your financial contribution is seen in the many programs funded by United Way - from helping children who could not help themselves, to seniors in bringing meaning back into their lives. Donations can be made in several different ways such as:

Individual pledges - A general donation can be made to support our local programs and services by completing our online donation form or by visiting our office at 500 Kings Rd., Suite 200 in Sydney to fill out a Pledge Card.

Payroll Deductions - In the past few years there has been tremendous support and participation in our Payroll Deduction Plans from employee groups all over Cape Breton. Participant groups have come from local businesses, corporations, schools, universities and colleges, hospitals, and nursing homes. As a result, over 200 agencies on the Island and thousands of individuals will recieve financial, medical, and social assistance from your contributions. Payroll Deduction accounts for the majority of our funding here at United Way and we request your continued support in building our community. Please contact our office at (902) 562-5226 for more info on how you or your organization can participate.

Corporate / Individual Leaders of the Way - A donation of $1000 or more will automatically render you or your corporation as a Community "Leader of the Way." This distinction is truly an honor to hold as you will be viewed as an enormous contributor to the health and social development of Cape Breton's less fortunate residents. You or your business will recieve gift packages from United Way along with public recognition in our annual reports for your generous gift. A Leader: "One who goes first, who sets an example, who shows the way."

Memoriams - A donation may be made in the honour of a friend or family member who has passed away by filling out the appropriate pledge card here at the United Way office.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION GOES A LONG WAY WITH UNITED WAY

Last year, people from all walks of life...the young, the elderly, the homeless, those without hope...were given a "hand-up" by our member agencies. They were listened to, counselled, received moral support and much, much more because of your generosity. The following is a snapshot of some of the great Health and Social services offered by United Way member agencies that assist thousands of Cape Bretoners each year. Of course, they are only made possible because of your generous donations.

Volunteer Resource Centre uses more then 200 volunteers to deliver over 9000 meals to Cape Bretoners in their homes.

Help Line handles thousands of calls per year from all over Cape Breton Island.

Bereaved Families of Cape Breton - Last year 219 attended one of the four support group programs.

Whitney Pier Youth Centre serves more then 150 breakfasts to school children per month.

St. John Ambulance is present at many community events with their troop of trained volunteers.

Canadian National Institute for the Blind assists nearly 1,026 individuals last year with services ranging from counselling to technical needs.

Cape Breton V.O.N. serves 6,620 seniors and chronically ill persons with their Foot Care Clinic, which is funded by the United Way.

Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia offers counselling for married couples, families, individuals and adolescents. 5,049 persons in Cape Breton were assisted in 2004.
